Food and meals in Oman

Food is important for people, because it provides them with power. Some Omani people eat traditional Omani food like: rice with some form of meat. And they call it (Biryani and Qabooly). But some Omani people eat fast food like burger and chips.


All families have 3 meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner.In the morning , they eat breakfast and it is light meal. At breakfast, they eat soup, bread, cheese and eggs. Moreover they drink tea , coffee and milk. Breakfast time is from 7:00am until 11:00 am. In afternoon, they have lunch . In is proper meal because they return from work and they need the energy and food. Rice is the main food in this meal.They eat rice with some form of meat. After the completion of lunch they eat dates, fruit and sweets. Lunchtime is usually from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm. In the evening , they have dinner . It is light meal. They cook the meal at home or buy from restaurants like pizza and pancakes. Dinnertime is usually from 8:00 pm until 11:00pm.

There are many customs of eating like some people sit on the floor and meet the whole family and eat with their fingers also they talk with each other. Some people sit at the dining table and use spoons and forks to eat. After completion of the meal they eat dates or drink Omani coffee. The famous Omani food and drink is Arsia, Biryani and Omani coffee.


Food is important for people to live so they should follow a healthy diet. Furthermore they should eat the meal two hours before sleep also do some sports to stay fit.

  2. Yes, I eat lentils soup. First I boil enough water. Then I add soup (knor) . Finally I add salt and pepper. Sometimes I eat noodles.
