Abdel Halim Hafez was born on 21st of June ,1930 in the small village of Halawat. His mother died when he was born and his father died two weeks later of a broken heart. Abdel Halim went to live with his uncle in another town, and his uncle brought him up. As a child, he caught Bilharzia becaise he swam in dirty water. When he finished school, he went to work as a music teacher at girls school in Tanta. A few year later, he went to the Arab Music Institute to study music.
He finished his studies at the Institute in 1954 and became a singer. All the Egyptian People loved his songs and he soomn became very famous. His programme was on television every week and his songs were played on the radio every day.
He sang more than three hundred songs and all of them were popular.
When he died in 1977, all of Egypt cried.
